Iced Mango Pineapple Green Tea

pineapple mango green tea

Iced tea is a staple at summer barbecues, but sweetened versions are often loaded with added sugar. This iced green tea is free from added sugar and lightly sweetened with fresh mango and pineapple puree, which adds tropical fruit flavor and keeps total sugar under 8 grams per serving.

Makes: 8 servings (approximately 80 ounces)
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients
8 ¼ cups filtered water, divided
4 standard-sized green tea bags
1 mango, peel and seed removed
1 cup fresh or canned pineapple chunks
Pineapple wedges, optional
Mint leaves, optional

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Once water is boiling, remove from the heat and add the green tea bags. Steep tea bags for 10 minutes.

  2. While the tea steeps, prepare the fruit puree. Place the mango and pineapple in a blender with 1⁄4 cup of water and blend until smooth. Transfer fruit puree to a large iced tea pitcher.

  3. Remove the tea bags from water. Carefully pour the tea into the pitcher while it’s still hot. Use a long wooden spoon to stir the tea and fruit puree. Add remaining 4 cups of cold filtered water to the tea and stir again.

  4. Refrigerate the tea for at least 2 hours or overnight. Stir before serving. Serve cold over ice. Garnish each glass with a sprig of mint and a pineapple wedge, if desired.

Notes

To add a hint of mint, add fresh mint leaves to the tea before refrigerating. Discard mint leaves before serving.

The fruit puree may separate from the tea in the refrigerator. Give the mixture a quick stir with a long spoon before pouring for best results.
